This is the third post that deals with working with maths past papers – and the first for the Edexcel GCSE Higher Maths Calculator Questions.
The previous two posts, Edexcel GCSE Higher Maths Non Calculator Questions and AQA Higher Maths Non Calculator Questions, have generated some good views through the YouTube channel.
However I thought it would be useful to bring the videos together into one post on maths past papers. As before, the idea is to work through each 20 – 30 minute video by pausing at each of the questions. You should then compare solutions and the whole exercise should give you around an hour’s focussed revision.
Please don’t just watch! Revision should be active, rather than passive, and you’ll certainly gain more from working through the maths past papers yourself. Remember that some of the questions will be a little challenging, particularly towards the end of the paper. You might not be able to answer everything perfectly … although do try to gain marks by showing your working (always) and attempting every question.
Sometimes the questions can be a little ‘wordy’ and you’ll notice that I tend to use square brackets [ ] if I need to remember or deal with something. Particularly long questions can usually be attempted a bit at a time and the square bracket method can work quite well.
I’m not a great fan of ‘reading everything and underlining the bits that matter’ – I’d much rather see students read the first sentence … and the do something with it. Even drawing a triangle, number line or writing a formula might gain you a mark.
Here’s a link through to my book ‘The Ultimate Guide Maths Survival Guide,’ that might help.
One of the useful ways to keep in touch is to subscribe to my YouTube channel, and there’s quite a number of videos to help with revision. It can be a little daunting to be taking these exams but, with plenty of practice and regular revision, you can do it!
