This worksheet is a series of hard GCSE maths questions, and is aimed at around grade 6 higher level, from the non calculator paper. There isn’t a specific board, although these types of problems might appear on Edexcel, OCR, AQA or Educas.

Here’s the questions:

1. Simplify an algebraic expression (4 marks)
2. Prove algebraically that the straight line with the equation x – 2y = 10 is a tangent to the circle with equation x² + y² = 20 (4 marks)
3. The nth term of a sequence is n² + 2n + 1. Two consecutive terms in the sequence have a difference of 13. Work out the two terms. (3 marks)
4. Working with a histogram (4 marks)
5. Working out the area of a triangle using surds (5 marks)
