In this post we’re aiming to revise Edexcel GCSE Maths Higher Paper 2017 – Paper 2. The paper is calculator based, although very important to always show your working – even the fairly obvious calculations. This will help the examiner to award as many marks as possible and it could give you a higher grade.

This series of papers seem to be fairly straightforward at the beginning …. and very difficult at the end. If you’re feeling confident it’s good to work through the last few questions, although please take a few minutes to check your earlier answers.
It’s surprisingly easy to lose a mark by not calculating ‘what’s left’ or forgetting to ‘write your answer to 3 significant figures.’
Here’s a link through to the GCSE practice questions to give you some additional resources.
Most of my students have also been given ‘packs’ of past papers. These are a great resource but it’s important to work through all the questions, and find a way to get some feedback. Just repeating the topics you feel comfortable with is OK – but it’s much better to work through some other problems.
This will give you much more confidence when you go into the exam and, with good quality feedback / tutoring, you can add valuable marks; perhaps even improve your grade.
The important thing is to keep stretching. Someone once said ‘reach for the moon, and you might hit the top of the lampost.’ Keep going!
