This video is all about changing the subject of a formula, and is aimed at around grade 6 GCSE maths.
The difficulty with this type of question is the requirement to factorise:
Make y the subject of the formula 3(y + 2) = a(5 – 2y)
These types of questions appear in all the main examination boards, including Edexcel, AQA and OCR. They are popular and, once you have the basic principles, fairly similar. Please do stop the video, try the question and compare your solution.
Top Tips!
- Always work down the page with the equals sign in the middle
- Always show your working
- Try to keep a positive value of your subject
- Learn to read right to left – as well as left to right
Algebra skills are very useful during GCSE exams – and can certainly represent over 1/4 of the questions; it’s definitely good to practice as much as possible.
